The Mouse House is an idyllic retreat for two people. A detached stone barn dating from the days when Rowling End was a farm, it has been sympathetically developed as a one-bedroom cottage. It was awarded a Gold Star Tourism rating in 2009.

These two self-catering properties have stunning views across the valley to Catbells and Maiden Moor. Whether you are looking to explore the high fells, lakes and valleys or simply wish to enjoy the dramatic landscape, Rowling End and the Mouse House provide the perfect starting point for your visit.

Beatrix Potter visited the area regularly. Her walks round Newlands Valley inspired her to write The Tale of Mrs Tiggywinkle. Renowned fell walker & writer Alfred Wainwright loved Newlands Valley too. He wrote: "More than 50 years have gone by since I first set eyes on Newlands and in all that time the valley seems not to have changed in any way.”
